PGSP researchers were recently awarded a National Science Foundation STTR grant in conjunction with Quimba Software to investigate how improvisation affects the performance of disaster managers in crisis situations (Award #IIP-0637999; "Towards Command Improvisation Support Systems for Disaster Managers"). Dr. Nina Zumel from Quimba is the project PI, and Dr. Larry Beutler from PGSP serves as co-PI. Zeno Franco, a fourth year PhD student was one of the lead authors for the grant, which supports his dissertation research. The command improvisation project uses a team-in-the-loop simulator to test groups of disaster managers on their ability to adapt and coordinate activities in turbulent environments.
